2006 World Cup World Cup Blogs
England's World Cup players have wound
up their blogs (diary's) on the
forum, so check out Rio's "mercks" on Beck's, Steve
McClaren's plans for winning the next World Cup, plus
the
news from Beck's, Theo and others... but a word of advice,
make sure you read all of the classic Owen Hargreaves
World Cup diary... he certainly had a
Thanks to those who contributed, you Sam Wins the World Cup Trophy It went to the wire as Sam and Matt battled for the title. Gary and Dom, who had also been in contention going into the final weekend, slipped back as they couldn't cope with the superb scoring of Sam and Matt. Sam's winning margin of just 3 points can be put down to a number of factors... he was the only person to predict a modest 2 goal tally from Gerrard and Lampard, plus he was also spot on with zero Rooney goals. He also picked two of the four semi finalists, whereas Matt only managed one. Key to everything though were the final two matches, as they both had a 1-1 score line at 90 minutes in the final, however Sam went for France to go on and win, while Matt gained ground by picking Italy. Sam more than made those 3 points up though in Saturdays 3rd/4th place match, as despite Matt going for a Germany win, he only had 2-1, but Sam got maximum points with a 3-1 prediction. Elsewhere in the final hustling, Elliott jumped from 9th to 6th, thanks largely to a 1-1 prediction in the final, while Cossie jumped from 13th to 8th. His gain was due to the maximum 12 points in the final and a Germany win in the 3rd/4th match, plus he was the only one of us to predict Klose would win the golden boot! You can see a few individual match comments, plus comments on the extra 'other' points if you scroll to the bottom of the page Well... that's the end of
the competition. England were not good enough, Brazil and Argentina
