St Albans  vs  Oakhill Tiger Sharks (25th February)

West were unlucky with a couple of decisions which cost them at least a point. It started badly when they conceded after just 5 minutes when Oakhill's quick winger made an excellent cross which was finished with a good header. West then settled well and Stuart Cole, Joe Murtagh, Jamie Heaffey and Chris Welch worked hard in defence to ensure Oakhill had no more chances in the first half.  West also had the better of it with some good balls through and over the top from Jamie, and some good pressure from Scott Howlett up front.

Jamie went just wide with a clearance from outside the box but the best chances fell to Carl Biggs and Charlie Rainsford but both unfortunately went over the bar.  Worse for West was a good through ball to Ross which was tucked away only to be given offside by the ref, even though the Oakhill linesman did not flag it (and in fact agreed he was level), which left them 1-0 down at half time instead of level.

West started the second half well when a long clearance from Jamie found Ross Whinnett whose deft through ball found Scott who made in 1-1, rounding the keeper with an excellent effort.  Unfortunately 3 minutes later a shove on Stuart was not given and the subsequent throw resulted in a scramble in the goal mouth which was not cleared and West found themselves 1 down again. Four minutes later another throw in found the Oakhill striker who turned well and slotted under the keeper to make it 3-1 to the away team.

West kept battling and Scott looked to be through on goal but an Oakhill hand ball that sent the ball away from him was not seen by the ref. He did however, give an indirect free kick shortly after on the 6-yard box, but Oakhill managed to clear the ensuing scramble and the ball returned to the West end for another excellent cross to be finished well at the back post.  Ross then set George Figg away on the right and his excellent long range effort caught the keeper off his line and sailed in the top corner.  Had those early decisions gone West's way you can only believe it would have been a lot closer.

Final Score:  St. Albans West 2 - 4 Oakhill Tiger Sharks
