Oxhey Utd v St Albans   (14th May)

They had to wait four years, but West finally lifted their first trophy at the St Albans Rangers 11-a-side tournament. An excellent team performance saw them unbeaten with two draws and two wins to make the final against Oakhill Tiger Sharks (their division winners this season). West had to get past two St Albans Rangers teams (runner up in the league) who had drafted in a couple of red division players to make up their numbers. The West defence of Stuart Cole, Elliott Jay, Ryan Maher, Ross Whinnett and Martin Robinson however, were more than a match for anything thrown at them, conceding only once in the whole tournament in a 1-1 draw.

The midfield worked really hard in every game, and Greg Springall up front had an excellent tournament scoring two and making two others. Carl Biggs also found the back of the net with an important header from a superb Greg cross, and in the final Jamie Heaffey scored the only goal, an excellent winner, leaving the Oakhill keeper no chance after a great through ball again from Greg.

West proved today what they are capable of, and every single player on the West team contributed to this well deserved first trophy.
