U13 West won again to
continue their push for promotion, however they were slow starters in this
match as Croxley began a lot brighter. Croxley took an early lead  after
seven minutes when their striker made a good run and West failed to
tackle, but he finished well. Croxley continued to apply pressure which
led to a number of corners, as the West players were not at their best,
and were struggling to retain possession. Their fortunes changed though
following a good cross from George Figg to Tom Weaver whose rebounded shot
fell to Scott Howlett who equalized from
close range. Despite this it was Croxley who continued to dominate, and
were it not for some excellent saves from Martin in goal, Croxley would
have been in front instead of 1-1 at half time.

Following a wake up call from the management team at half time, West
came out battling, and soon took the lead following a great run and shot from Matt
Peckham. Following good work from Stuart Cole on the left and Chris Welch
in the middle, further chances soon followed, including a lob from George Figg
from over 20 yards that just went over the bar. The third goal followed
soon after, when a ball cleared from the Croxley penalty area was met by
Myles Smith whose fantastic lobbed shot from 25 yards beat the keeper to make it
      3-1.

The improved performance was down to the whole team, as at the back, the
defence was battling much more, with some good work from Charlie Craigen
in particular. The midfield were also dominating the
game, to such an extent that Martin didn’t have a single save to make in
the second half. Towards the end West could have increased their lead as
Matt was causing the Croxley defence a lot of problems, and Jack Sibbery's
excellent run and shot was saved well. In the last
minute Chris Welch and Jack Siberry combined well in front of goal but
somehow the ball failed to go in.

The final 3-1 score line highlighted West’s dominance following a poor
first half, but once they got into gear they played some good football,
and probably deserved at least 1 or 2 more.
