St Albans City West  vs  Riverside Hibernian  (29th October)

West started this game brightly and dominated the opening fifteen minutes, with Jamie Heaffey coming closest to opening the scoring after receiving the ball, turning well, and shooting, but the ball went just wide of the far post. Good work from Tom Weaver then gave Jamie another opportunity, while soon after Scott Howlett had a good cross/shot across goal with Chris Welch stretching and almost getting a touch on it to score, but not quite reaching it. Riverside soon found their rhythm though and started to press forward with Alex Cobb making a number of good saves.

With two minutes of the first half left, and the score 0-0, Scott got into a great position on the edge of the Riverside penalty area and struck a great right foot shot to open the scoring. Unfortunately straight from the kick-off, West went to sleep thinking the half was all over, while Riverside headed directly for the West goal and equalized, so the first half ended all square.

West started the second half brightly again, with Scott setting up a chance for Greg Springall whose excellent volley went just wide. Riverside however, picked up a gear which was not matched by the West boys, and in a nine minute spell Riverside scored three times to lead 4-1. Not long after, West grabbed a goal back after good work from Jamie led to an opening for Carl Biggs, who scored from close range. There were chances for both sides in the final ten minutes to add to the score, but none were taken and so the game finished 4-2 in favour of Riverside.

This was a very off colour performance from the boys who should have done much better. They play became a little sloppy in the second half, while their passing was not up to the usual standards although the pitch (with very long grass) didn’t help.

Final Score:     St. Albans City West 2 - 4  Riverside Hibernian

Joint Man of the Match: Jamie Heaffey, Alex Cobb and Tom Weaver
