West should have secured their first
home win after dominating most of the game and passing the ball
better than Hadley, but they did not take their chances.
They had a couple of good balls in the box in the first few minutes and a lovely through ball from Ryan Rickard after five minutes put Scott Howlett through one on one with the keeper but it was saved. Three minutes later he also had a half chance but his shot went just over. Tom Weaver, who was excellent on the right wing, put a great cross into Greg Springall but his header was saved, as was a George Figg effort a few minutes later. Hadley then scored in one of their rare attacks when West failed to clear. Still West continued to play well and another great Tom cross was blasted over, and just before half time a free kick went wide. The second half started brightly after Ross Whinnett put Greg through, but his shot went just wide. Greg was again thwarted by an excellent one handed save after George set him away on a great run. Ross put West back in it though after fifteen minutes when another excellent Tom cross found him on the edge of the six yard box and he side footed home. Four minutes later however, a cross into the box deflected off a Hadley player and crept in the back post leaving Alex Cobb in goal no chance. West had another good chance a few minutes later after a great clearance from Charlie Craigen found Scott one on one with the keeper, but it was saved again. West were really unlucky and were punished for both their mistakes in defence. It should have been a draw at worst but it was just not West's day. Final Score: St. Albans City West 1 - 2 Hadley Rangers Joint Man of Match: George Figg, Ross Whinnett and Adam
