AC Finchley Select vs St Albans City West  (8th October)

West started this Challenge Cup second round tie brightly after Jamie Heaffey
was hacked down on the edge of the area after a good run down the right. The resulting free kick by George Figg was parried by the keeper and only just scrambled away. West kept up the pressure and a few minutes later a flick to
Greg Springall saw his volley saved. This was closely followed by a good effort from Jamie following an influential Tom Weaver through ball which went just over.

The pressure paid off after 12 minutes though, when Ross Whinnett set Greg away on a terrific run, beating several defenders to slot home.  Finchley then started to pressure but the hard working West defence of Joe Murtagh, Elliott Jay, Stuart Cole, Ryan Maher, Alex Cobb, and the outstanding Charlie Craigen, kept them at bay until just before half time when a weak shot somehow found the back of the net.

The second half saw the West defence even harder pushed and they had to clear several goal mouth scrambles, while Alex in goal made several superb reflex saves to keep West in the game. West never stopped however, and after 16 minutes Stuart broke from defence to fire in a excellent cross from the left which Scott Howlett smashed home. Finchley may count themselves unlucky but everyone in the West team worked really hard and they fully deserved the win.

Final Score:   AC Finchley Select  1 - 2  St. Albans City West

Joint Man of Match: Charlie Craigen, Scott Howlett and Alex Cobb
